Real Life Success Stories
Many of our patients come to us with similar problems: poor concentration; can't pay attention in class; trouble learning to read; poor comprehension or just simply, not working to potential. Hidden vision problems need not hold your child back. Here's how....
How does vision affect learning?
Good vision requires much more than just clear sight and healthy eyes. A simple sight check will only measure how well your child can see the board. But what about all the close work children do these days? How does that affect their eyes?
Reading, writing and computer work require a child to have good control of some very small eye muscles! This control is necessary to ensure they can keep the page clear, single (not double) and can easily track or move their eyes to the most important parts. In early classroom years, these muscles are easily over-worked, strained or fatigued. Put simply, if your child has difficulty maintaining their place on a page, or keeping it clear and signle, then they will not work to potential.

What sort of patients can be helped?
Here are some patients who were being held back by a hidden eye vision problem. They have all benefited from vision therapy:
Daniel was 10 when he was diagnosed with divergence excess (eye teaming & alignment difficulty) and eye movement control (eg. tracking) difficulties. Daniel successfully completed 16 weeks of vision therapy. Here is his story (written by his Mum, Julie)….
My son had difficulty in reading, spelling and at school. He also had no concentration on a set task.
My son now has an interest in school work and does homework without being asked. His spelling and concentration has improved. He also has more confidence in his ability to complete tasks on his own.
Moahengi was 9 when he was diagnosed with focusing difficulties. He successfully completed 24 weeks of vision therapy. Here is his story (written by Mum, Donna)…..
My Son Moahengi struggled with reading and comprehension; he was unable to work independently.
Since completing vision therapy, my son can READ!! We love you! You have given my son the gift of reading that will change his life! Thank you from an ever grateful parent!
Alexandra was diagnosed with convergence insufficiency (eye teaming problems) and eye movement control difficulties at age 6. She has successfully completed 16 weeks of vision therapy. Here is her story (written by her Mum)….
Alex had difficulty reading and at school. We had also been recommended to see Harmony Vision Care by our speech therapist and occupational therapist.
Vision therapy has improved Alex’s self confidence. Her reading has improved a lot! Alex is now reading at level 16. She has marked improvements also in her writing and balance.
The occupational therapist who referred us says that Alex is now a different child! She has made a huge overall improvement! Alex’s teachers are all excited and impressed by Alex’s improvement. Me too! Many Thanks!
Aslyn was 6 when she was first referred to Harmony Vision Care by another Optometrist. She was diagnosed with convergence insufficiency (eye teaming difficulty), and underwent 24 weeks of office-based vision therapy. This is Aslyn’s story (written by Mum, Terri).
Prior to treatment, Aslyn had been complaining of her eyes 'going grey' and teachers had commented on her inability to complete longer pages of work, even though she had the ability to do so in the time permitted.
Vision Therapy brought Aslyn's eyes back up to an acceptable level for her convergence difficulties on most of the tests undertaken. This meant the need for glasses at this stage has been prevented. She has also been able to better manage her school-work, her handwriting has improved to the extent it is now awarded in class and she has had fewer behavioural issues raised at school. It (Vision Therapy) was also a really interesting process to go through as a parent. We developed a real sense of working as a team that has overflowed into other areas and situations that have presented since therapy.
While the therapy itself was hard work and very emotional at times we were totally supported by all the staff at Harmony Vision Care. While maintaining a high degree of professionalism, the staff were also friendly and warm and we enjoyed our visits. Overall we had an extremely positive experience at Harmony Vision and would recommend them to anyone who could benefit from the services they provide.
