Vision Therapy

What is Vision Therapy?

Eye-Mind™ Vision Therapy is much more than just "eye exercises". It is a progressive method of retraining how the brain, eyes and body work together. Therapy is individually programmed and delivered, and is designed to target specific areas of visual dysfunction. Vision Therapy may be used to improve: eye movements (tracking or following with the eyes); visual attention (fixation & use of peripheral vision); eye teaming (ability to point both eyes accurately at the same time); focusing (ability to change focus from far to close) and visual processing.

Why Choose Harmony Vision Care?

To ensure successful outcomes, all of our Eye-MindTM Vision Therapy programs are custom-made and individually prescribed for each and every person. Research has proven that the success rate of Office Based Vision Therapy far exceeds "simpler" forms of vision therapies or computer based programs, alone. At Harmony Vision Care, nearly one third of our practice is devoted to this unique service. Our vision therapists are trained professionals whose aim is to guide and assist you through your individualised program to maximise your success.

Our experience leaves us with little doubt about the potential for improvement with Eye Mind Vision Therapy. As such, we guarantee improvements or your money back*.

Who can benefit from Vision Therapy?

The simple answer - absolutely anyone! Many of our patients initially don't think they have a vision problem because their sight is good. Yet sight is only a very small part of the overall process of Vision. Instead, Vision is the complete process of how the brain and the eyes work together.

Consequently, many adults never imagined that many of their life-long difficulties were caused by a vision problem, nor would they have imagined that the effects can be present for years.

Life-long problems caused by a hidden vision problem include:

  • Falling asleep with reading
  • Closing one eye to read
  • Always avoiding reading
  • Sore or tired eyes
  • Finding it difficult to make eye contact
  • Difficulty judging distances while driving or playing sport
  • Headaches - that's right it may not be from dehydration after-all!
  • Feeling "stupid" because of having to re-read everything

How can Vision Therapy help my child?

If you are sharing your child's frustrations with school-work, then Eye Mind Vision Therapy™ may be the key to unlocking your child's potential...

Imagine no more fights over homework, a child who is not cranky and tired after school, a child who enjoys reading, is happy to complete their work and has renewed self confidence.

Eye-Mind™ Vision Therapy is not a replacement for reading tuition, remediation, or phonic awareness training. So you might ask, then why do it? There are many good reasons:

  1. Even something that appears as “simple” as an eye-teaming problem can have a dramatic impact on some children. Vision problems may be a primary barrier to learning or they may be a further burden to a child with other difficulties (such as a child with ADD). Hence, remediation and tutoring become easier.>
  2. Research has demonstrated that children can improve in reading and mathematical ability from vision therapy alone.
  3. Failure to acquire good visual processing skills is a reliable predictor of future academic performance. This is because vision is the dominant sensory process.
  4. Even a phonetic or phonic approach to reading requires the ability to hold visual attention (look at things), move the eyes quickly and easily and visually recognise letters & words. Fatigue of the eye muscles that hold visual attention is the reason why some children start out reading well in the early grades, only to start failing after grade 2 or 3.
  5. Research demonstrates that vision therapy improves Quality of Life scores so that the benefits of vision therapy go way beyond the act of reading.
